Carmela Sutera has earned a reputation
as one of New York's pre-eminent fashion designers. Over the
years, her wedding collections have been noted for their delicate
fusion of contemporary style, understated elegance, and old
world sensibility, a creative expression that comes naturally
to Sutera. All Carmela Sutera gowns have been (and always
will be) made in the U.S. under Carmela's watchful eye. Carmela
Sutera's collection is a TRUE couture collection. These gowns
are not mass produced, they are individually made. Today,
Sutera's gowns are crafted from the finest silks, satins,
wools, and laces by a European-trained staff, whose workmanship
reflects the meticulous manner of Italian couture but always
with real brides in mind.
Born in Italy, the daughter of a successful boutique owner
and artist, Sutera arrived in New York at the tender age of
eighteen. Before long, she was working in the most respected
fashion houses on the East Coast. By 1979, Sutera had found
her way into New York's exciting bridal business. The overall
look, she says, is classic Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.
Sutera cautions brides to begin their search for the perfect
wedding gown a year in advance. "Brides should allow
time to order fabric, the beading and the embroidery,"
she says.
